Wisdom of the Ancestors 12-Film Series
Ancestral Wisdom for Collective Healing
For countless generations, Indigenous peoples lived in intimate relationship with the natural world, caring for ancestral lands and safeguarding ancient knowledge. However, the forces of colonialism, capitalism, and individualism have shaped a “modern” Western worldview that clouds our collective memory, convincing us that we are separate from the Earth, from one another, and from our ancestors.
In May 2022, a small film team set out to document the profound effects of colonization on Indigenous communities, their lands, and their cultures. What began as a single film, The Eternal Song, naturally expanded into a broader initiative comprising twelve documentaries, each honoring the distinct story of an Indigenous community.
Across these communities, stories emerged of healing generational trauma while protecting cultural traditions, languages, and ceremonies deeply grounded in relationship to the land and ancestral knowledge. Together, they remind us that our shared future depends on restoring our connection to Mother Earth and heeding the timeless call of existence that guides us back to our inherent sense of belonging.

The Eternal Song is a cinematic journey through timeless lands and their Indigenous cultures. Voices from around the world and across generations invite us to witness the deep, ongoing scars of colonization on lands and peoples, as well as the healing that comes through ancestral wisdom. Entrusted with medicine stories, we grapple with colonial legacies, intergenerational trauma, our own fragmentation, and a culture of separation.
The film reveals how modernity severs our connection to nature, to one another, and to the ancestral realm, while offering us empty promises of salvation, unlimited consumption, economic growth, and individual happiness. As we are drawn into the intricate web of kinship and honoring the living presence of Mother Earth, we awaken a remembrance. A sacred dance comes to life, and we begin to hear the eternal song of Life itself, calling us back to belonging.

Mauri is a cinematic invitation into the healing traditions of Aotearoa, a journey carried by Māori healers, elders, and knowledge keepers who tend to intergenerational wounds through land, language, and ceremony. Filmed in close relationship with those who carry ancestral wisdom, Mauri reveals how healing is not an individual pursuit but a collective remembering – guided by spirit, whenua (land), and the relational threads that colonial disruption could not sever. With breathtaking imagery and intimate storytelling, the film brings us into the spaces where trauma is not “treated” but held, where stories, prayers, medicines, and rituals offer pathways back to connection. Mauri does not explain Māori healing. It moves with it – listening to what still pulses beneath silence, and honoring what remains alive in the hands of those who never forgot.
